Incubator-style workshop

Incubator-style workshop

The need

In discussions with area creatives, we identified a need for opportunities for individual practitioners to present and discuss their careers and big-picture goals, in order to help them to assess their strategies for moving forward successfully.

The project

An incubator-style session in which a small group comes together, with each person presenting an overview of who they are and what they do, and then soliciting feedback from the group on some question or problem facing them.

The group

Six creative innovators from Guelph and Waterloo, Ontario, from various backgrounds and with projects in varying degrees of completion. Participants included:

  • a book editor
  • a podcaster
  • the leader of an enriched high school arts program
  • a graphic designer
  • an environmentalist
  • a writer

The impact

Participants came away from the session with a deepened big-picture sense of their respective creative initiatives, useful in future planning and marketing activities. In addition, they were introduced to several new contacts and potential future collaborators in relevant fields of endeavour, and gained an enhanced sense of the context in which they work. Participants are now more equipped to succeed in their own work and to support the broader community.

Next steps

Following this initial positive result, the only connect team is exploring a possible second session in Waterloo, Ontario, as well as future iterations exploring additional aspects of the incubator model.
